Founded in the US in 1895, Chiropractic (meaning "done by hand" in Greek) is a natural, drug-free form of healthcare which concerns itself with improving the health of your spine and body by removing any interference to your nervous system.

If a nerve is impinged or irritated anywhere along its pathway, it can affect whatever the nerve is travelling to - muscles, skin, internal organs, etc.

The most frequent place where this interference occurs is just as the nerve exits from the spinal cord and passes between your vertebrae.

Althought the vertebrae are there to protect your nerves, sometimes because of trauma, poor posture or improper lifting, your vertebrae can misalign, usually slipping backward and twisting to the right or left. This vertebral misalignment (or subluxation), strains the spinal ligaments and narrows the space through which the nerve exits.

As a result, the nerve can become irritated and inflamed causing pain, numbness, tingling, restricted movement, muscle pain/spasm, weakness, and/or altered function of an internal organ.

Dr. Mitchell specializes in identifying these vertebral misalignments. He then corrects them with a chiropractic adjustment - using his hands to comfortably move the vertebra at a specific angle back into its proper alignment.

Over a 20 year career Dr. Mitchell has developed an expertise in the treatment of the many complaints patients frequently attend chiropractors for: back pain, neck pain, whiplash, headaches, muscle aches, cramps and weakness, sciatica, tendonitis, work and sports injuries, limb pain (elbows, shoulders, knees, hips, & foot pain).

Podiatry is a specialist branch of medicine which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the foot and lower limb.

Podiatrists differ from Chiropodists in that they have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Podiatric Medicine (or previously a Diploma in Podiatric Medicine) and therefore have a wider scope for practice.

General treatments include skin care (i.e. corns and callus removal), nail care, soft tissue and connective tissue problems, and advice on footwear.

Podiatrists carry out specialized work, for example nail surgery, and are qualified to administer local anaesthetics, musculoskeletal assessments and biomechanical orthotic. They can also diagnose and treat medical conditions that can directly impact feet, such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and poor circulation.

Glenda runs a Foot Clinic in Trim on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am-7pm.
